Nestled between the black and white mountain ranges, the Huaraz area offers astounding views of nature and culture at its most raw.

These are some of the popular day visits:

The only glacier accessible by road, get a chance to climb without the hard work of the trekking.

Two beautiful mountain lakes – accessible by road. There is the possibility of taking a small boat trip on the lake.

The ruins of an excavated temple…pre-dating the Inca era, with tunnels, idol heads and an obelisk of said god.

Pre-Incan ruins of a tombsite from the Huari culture…very close to Huaraz.

Right in the town plaza, this museum shows a variety of historic symbols of the area, plus demonstrates Huaraz in its pre 70`s earthquake state.

At the highest point overlooking town is the cross – a great place for watching sunsets, just don`t take valuables with you.

Thermal baths just outside of Huaraz where you can relax in a private bath or have a swim in one of their large pools.

Because these day trips don`t require technical skill or in-depth organisation, you can book any one of these day trips through tour agencies on the main high street without problems even the day before your adventure. Most sell tickets on a collective tour bus anyway, so it doesn`t make much difference who you go through. Some you can do on your own as well just by co-ordinating transport to and from the places of interest.
