CURRENT SITUATION:
Educational standards in these remote parts of Peru are poor and completely non-existent for toddlers and young children up to 4 years of age. Teachers don't turn up on time, nor are paid well, neither do they have a curriculum to follow so its no wonder the parents think their children aren't benefitting from a government education and end up sending them to work in the fields instead

OUR SOLUTION:
Now that we have had our own son, we have been keen on offering him the benefits of early learning techniques such as flash cards, math dots, word cards, physical development and hand to eye co-ordination skills. There are 30 children between the ages of 1 to 3 years in the surrounding indigenous communities. We have recently opened our doors to make the same programs we offer our son available to other neighboring children.

The mothers are very excited by this project as their children will not only have full access to a superior education, but will also receive tutoring in English (something they value highly). Teaching starts in the third week of January 2006. As the age group grows, the curriculum will evolve to suit their needs, leaving behind an established itinerary for upcoming ages and so on.

We eventually plan to have a fully operational education facility dedicated to the physical and mental development of all local children of various ages. The school will be dedicated to activities such as art, drama, music, sport and English (which will encompass sciences, history, geography and math). In order to achieve this we need to build a facility for this purpose. See how you can help

TASKS ACCOMPLISHED:
- Proposed the idea to several mothers who are our spokesmen to the community and who have started bringing their children to be accustomed to playing together and joining in the group experience.
- These children receive a mid-morning snack and sometimes lunch so we got them tables and chairs for the sit down experience of this and other drawing/writing activities. We're starting to build up a stock and have crayons, some paper, blocks, toys and a few books.
- Researched math dots providers and programmes.

TASKS PROJECTED:
- Contact potential sponsors for the donation of educational toys and materials to remain property of the Community school
- Implement tot schooling programme in mid Jan 2006 hopefully with the help of volunteers ( I can help )
- Design of basic building plan that meets schools needs.
- Fund raising for projected school building
- Build foundations, supporting columns and roof
- Create mud bricks for walls and windows/doors to be made
- Install walls and furniture fittings
- Decorate the interior and furnish
- Develop more activities for older children
